READING: Keith Gessen of n+1 will be at Politics and Prose to discuss his novel, All the Sad Young Literary Men, which follows the lives of three post-Ivy League young New Yorkers as they wade through trying to make careers out of writing. 7 p.m.

MUSIC: Canada’s The Constantines visit the Rock and Roll Hotel, with perhaps even more interesting noise-country openers Oakley Hall, plus Ecstasy the Flower. Doors at 8 p.m., $14.

CLASSICAL: The Ariel String Quartet will give a recital at the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater. Along with music by Mozart and Beethoven, they will play Webern’s Bagatelles for String Quartet, op. 9. Tickets: $38.

MOVIE: The Goethe Institut hosts a screening and discussion of Elia Kazan’s 1964 film, America, America, the story of a young Greek villager who moves to the big city of Constantinople, only to find himself dreaming of coming to this country. 6:30 p.m., $6 ($4 for members).
