>> Portland, Oregon-based indie soulstress Liv Warfield has been garnering positive reviews ever since the 2006 release of her debut album, Embrace Me. She’ll be performing two shows at Blues Alley this evening. $20, 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.

>> Was (Not Was) came out of Detroit in the early 1980s with “Wheel Me Out” and scored a hit later in the decade with “Walk the Dinosaur“. Recently reinvigorated, the band will bring their fusion of rock, electronic dance and jazz to the Birchmere. $35, 7:30 p.m.

WEDNESDAY:
>> Russell Taylor (pictured) first made an impression on the house track, “Fool for Love”. Now he’s focusing his craft more on soul. He’ll be putting on two shows at Bohemian Caverns as a part of the weekly Rhythm & Soul series. $12 in advance/$15 at the door, 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.

THURSDAY:
>> When El-P first made a name for himself, it was on the indie hip-hop scene of the mid- to late-90s with his group Company Flow. Now he’s known for having created one of the better regarded independent labels, Definitive Jux, and work as a solo artist. The New York MC will be at the 9:30 Club along with one of the UK’s lead grime artists, Dizzee Rascal, whose latest single is starting to get some play in the States. $20, 7:30 p.m.
