MUSIC: Colour Revolt, an up and coming rock band from Mississippi, plays guitar-heavy tunes with literature-inspired lyrics tonight at the Rock and Roll Hotel. Also playing are Snowden, The Epochs, and Bellfur on this full bill. $12, 8:30 p.m.
TALK: Author, scholar, professor, and architect Witold Rybczynski appears at the National Building Museum tonight to discuss the historical context of Washington, D.C.’s famous height limit, as well as other height limits across the country. Tickets are $20 for non-members ($12 for members), and can at this point only be had by showing up at 5:30 for limited walk-in registration. 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
MUSIC: Lissy Rosemont, lead singer of D.C.’s Junior League, will be stopping by Iota tonight to support Savannah, GA singer-songwriter Arum Rae, who sounds a bit like a southern PJ Harvey. $10, 8:30 p.m.
READING: Les Standiford, author of Last Train to Paradise: Henry Flagler and the Spectacular Rise and Fall of the Railroad that Crossed an Ocean, will make an appearance at Politics and Prose to discuss his latest book, Washington Burning, the story of the beginning of our fair city. 7 p.m.
OPERA: A limited number of tickets are still available for tonight’s performance of Elektra by the Washington National Opera. Our critic thought the performances ranged “from good to excellent, with soprano Christine Goerke standing out among the leads as an exceptionally opulent Chrysothemis.” $45 – $300, 7:30 p.m.
MOVIE: At the Death House Door, a film examining the consequences of the death penalty through the eyes of the story of Carlos de Luna, the innocent man that the state of Texas put to death, screens at the All Souls Unitarian Church’s Pierce Hall (1500 Harvard St. NW) at 6:30 p.m.
