MUSIC: Members of three of our former Three Stars (The Bonapartes, Death By Sexy, and The Third Programme) have banded together to form Cobra Collective. They’ll be performing their first show at the Black Cat tonight with Dennis Kane and Once Okay Twice. $8, 9 p.m.

JAZZ: Tonight, Chicago’s freewheeling fusion quartet Hudson pays a visit to Busboys & Poets. 9 p.m. $10

KARAOKE: Put on a neon wig or any of the other odd-ball costumes the gang at Solly’s provides for Kostume Karaoke and your inhibitions will magically melt away. A drink or three won’t hurt either. Karaoke starts at 8 p.m. and goes until whenever the bartenders tell us they’ve had enough. Tonight’s edition will also feature free cupcakes in celebration of host Libby Sinback’s birthday — anyone else with a May birthday is especially encouraged to join the fun.

MOVIE: Catch a screening of a selection from the DC Shorts Film Competition at Artomatic tonight, starting at 6 p.m. in the Screening Room.

MUSIC: The Beat Grinder Championship is back at Liv and will feature 10 of the area’s best producers in a fight to declare who has the best beats. Grap Luva of I.N.I. fame will play host while yU and Insight will share MC duties with DJs Damu and Underdog on the 1s and 2s. $7, 9 p.m.

MOVIE: AFI Silver has held over its screenings of Blade Runner: The Final Cut. 7:10 p.m. or 9:35 p.m. showings.

TRIVIA: It’s also Smart Ass Trivia night at Nellie’s at 9th & U. Test your brain power at 8 or 9 p.m.
