>> Jazzy vocalist Loide and singer/guitarist Kuku will be showcasing their talents at the Eighteenth Street Lounge. $10, 8 p.m.

>> To accommodate people leaving town for the extended weekend, Rebirth is happening one day earlier than usual. What remains the same are the venue, Mirrors (33 New York Ave NE), and a strong selection of house music DJed by Sam Burns and DJ Oji, among others. $10, 9 p.m.

Saturday:
>> The Artmosphere Cafe in Mt. Rainer will play host to “A Night of Hip-Hop & Soul” featuring E and the Infinite Soul Family with additional sounds provided by the Soul Controllers. $10, 8 p.m.

>> It goes without saying that KRS-ONE (pictured) is a hip-hop legend. From his work with BDP to his solo material, he’s always been one of the most poignant lyricists and best spokespeople for the art. He’ll be at the Black Cat with Kokayi. $22, 9 p.m.

>> DJ Dredd is at it again with a “Prince Versus” holiday weekend set. This time around, the Purple One will battle all comers on the Black Cat‘s mainstage. $12, 9 p.m.
