Monday is Memorial Day, so Metro has released its holiday schedule.
Metrorail, Metrobus and MetroAccess will all operate on a Sunday schedule, 7 a.m. to midnight, on Monday. Parking at all transit authority-operated lots will be free, and off-peak fares will be in effect all day.
The good news for Green and Yellow line riders is that ongoing switch work at Mt. Vernon Square will not take place this weekend, so the lengthy delays seen on those lines for the past two weekends will not be in effect. The switch replacement work will resume the following weekend, May 30-June 1, and be completed over the weekend after that, June 6 to June 8.
However, track work and rail car testing on the Green, Red and Blue lines will be happening this weekend, so you can still expect some limited delays. On the Green line, rail car testing between the Greenbelt and College Park stations will lead to 15 minutes delays between 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 24. On the Red line, track work on Sunday night, between 9 p.m. and midnight, will lead to delays of 15 minutes between the Friendship Heights and Medical Center stations. And on the Blue line, track work between the Stadium-Armory and Addison Road-Seat Pleasant stations will cause 20 minute delays on Sunday from 8 p.m. to midnight.
And don’t forget to factor in the traditional Memorial Day events that will alter Metrobus routes and schedules. On Sunday, the annual Rolling Thunder 1st Amendment Demonstration Ride will occur around the National Mall from noon to 3 p.m., and on Monday, the National Memorial Day Parade takes place along Constitution Ave. from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Check the list of affected Metrobus schedules.
