A water main break is disrupting traffic on 16th Street NW between Florida Ave. and Euclid Street. D.C. Water and Sewer Authority workers are on the scene working on the break.

Only one lane is getting by northbound past the workers at this time. If you need to head north of U Street NW in the area, take 15th Street instead.

We’re waiting to hear back from WASA, but initial reports indicate low water pressure in the affected area, encompassing the blocks lying between 17th Street and Crescent Place NW, 16th Street and Florida Ave. NW, and 16th Street and Belmont Street NW.

The traffic backup wasn’t too bad 15 minutes ago, and Metrobus’s S lines were still running relatively on time. We’ll update if we hear the work will continue through the rush hour.

UPDATE: Reader Kellie writes in to say her place, which is right across the street from the water main break, has been without water at all since this morning.

UPDATE II: WASA reports that the water main break has been repaired, and that water service should now be restored. 16th Street NW has been reopened between Euclid and Florida Ave.
