Good morning, Washington. Metro has posted an announcement on its web site to let passengers know that they managed to replace the “kinked” piece of track between the East Falls Church and Ballston-MU stations overnight. Service on the Orange line has resumed, though trains headed downtown are being restricted to 15 mph through that area of track today, which is adding a few extra minutes of travel time. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for you that the evening commute on the Orange line will be close to normal for the first time this week.

Wave of Violence Overnight: The Post counts eight people were shot overnight in both the District and Prince George’s County, including a 12-year-old boy and a man shot by a D.C. police officer near RFK Stadium. The man, who was reported seen staggering in the road to police, was shot and critically wounded during a scuffle with the responding officer after the man allegedly beat the officer with his own police baton. No deaths have been reported in any of the shootings.

Trinidad Checkpoint Extended Through Sunday: The “Neighborhood Safety Zone” checkpoint that police have set up in the Trinidad neighborhood will continue through Sunday, reports the Post.

Five Indicted in $500,000 Drug Bust: Five people have been indicted by a federal grand jury on drug trafficking and interstate transportation of stolen goods charges, WTOP reports. D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said her department has broken up a major drug ring that operated in the District and Prince George’s County. As part of the bust, police seized two kilos of cocaine, 500 grams of crack cocaine, 147 pounds of marijuana, $140,000 in cash, and four firearms.
