READING: Virginia Sen. Jim Webb says he doesn’t want to be Vice President, so we are left to assume that the only reason we keep seeing him everywhere is he really wants to sell more copies of his latest book, A Time to Fight. He’ll be at Politics and Prose at 7 p.m.

MUSIC: Japanese noise rockers Boris bring the pain tonight to the Black Cat, with Torche and Clouds. $13, 8 p.m.

FOOD & DRINK: Somehow got lots of extra money in your pocket? Limited tickets should still be available at the door for Washingtonian’s Best Of event, a massive foodie and drink extravaganza that costs $95 (or $125 for a VIP pass that gets you in an hour early). Over 50 restaurants and a number of local bars will be on hand at the National Building Museum for tasting and mingling, with a portion of proceeds benefiting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. 7 p.m.

PERFORMANCE: The Hip-Hop Theater Festival opens with “Brave New Voices” at the Kennedy Center‘s Millennium Stage. The event features poet Sonia Sanchez along with the D.C. WritersCorps Slam Team. Free, 6 p.m.
