The National Book Festival, which has become a flagship event for area bibliophiles, just announced its 2008 author line-up.
The festival, held rain or shine on the National Mall, will take place on Sept. 27 and once again be hosted by First Lady Laura Bush in conjunction with the Library of Congress. Retaining its inclusive tradition, the event will feature writers, readings, book and activities for readers of all ages.
This year’s line-up features over 70 writers both acclaimed and new, and includes some internationally recognized names such as Salman Rushdie and Paul Theroux; celebrity authors such as Dionne Warwick (who just knew she was going to be there, right?) and Tiki Barber (who, along with his brother, has written a couple of children’s books); Neil Gaiman is slated to be in the Teens and Children pavilion (though we suspect some older fans will happen to wander over). Local writers such as Cake Love’s Warren Brown and Washington Post columnist Michelle Singletary will be featured in the Home and Family pavilion.
