What with our marches and tea parties, we think the D.C. voting rights movement is plenty hip. But the folks at DC Vote are constantly looking to be just a little more risqué, and they’re looking for help to do so. Want to be a fly girl (or boy) for voting rights?
DC Vote has teamed up with local group, D.A.A.S. Wuz Up Entertainment, to produce a music video that sheds some light on DC’s denial of democracy. Please join DC Vote staff, local supporters and local musician, Joe L. Da Vessel, for the “Demand the Vote” music video shoot, this Saturday, August 2. Joe L. has created a go-go song exclusively for DC Vote. Now we’re shooting a music video to accompany it, and we need your help!
The video director wants real, everyday DC residents to fill out the crowds in a number of the shots. We need people of all ages and backgrounds to participate in the crowd scenes. You wear what you want – whether it’s a t-shirt or a three-piece suit!
They’re looking for 25-50 people for each of the three shooting locations: School Without Walls, 213 G Street NE, from 8:30-9:30 a.m.; U.S. Capitol Building steps, Second Street NE and East Capitol Street NE, from 12 to 2 p.m.; and Pennsylvania Avenue between 1st and 3rd streets NW, from 2:30-4:30 p.m.
If you’re interested, shoot DC Vote Outreach Director Eugene Kinlow an email at ekinlow (at) dcvote (dot) org. It’s both a chance at 15 minutes of fame and making the voting rights movement way cooler. (Unfortunately, they shot down our idea for an atonal ballet a la “Rites of Spring.” What a bunch of snobs.)
