Good morning, Washington. Did you take advantage of D.C.’s sales tax holiday this weekend? We definitely saw a lot of people out on the sidewalks with shopping bags, especially on Sunday, when the weather became inexplicably perfect. The Post also noticed and went out and talked to shoppers looking for bargains. It’s pretty nice out there again today, but don’t expect it to last, obviously. This is D.C. in August, after all. The sales tax holiday, however, lasts through midnight next Sunday, Aug. 10.

Father Arrested in Slaying of 12-year-old Daughter: It looks like police were looking for Felipe Antonio Caceres for more than just questioning: Caceres was arrested and jailed for her killing over the weekend. The judge who ordered him held without bond called the circumstances surrounding the death of Marisol Caceres, which include that she was found with a plastic bag over her head and with her clothing partially removed, “extremely disturbing.” Caceres, who went missing immediately after his daughter’s death, turned himself in to police after learning that police wanted to question him from a television news report.

Man Arrested for Trinidad Triple Homicide: Residents of D.C. Trinidad neighborhood who have been enduring a particularly violent summer have some cause for relief: a man was arrested on murder charges over the weekend in the killings of three men on May 31. Seven people in total died within nine hours in Trinidad that night, eventually prompting the MPD to set up its first controversial “neighborhood safety zone” checkpoint about a week later.
