Woo woo! The summer drought is over! Tons of companies are back this September with their season openings, and we’ll try to catch as many as we can. Here are some highlights.

Princess Leia does Arena! Carrie Fisher’s Wishful Drinking premieres (Sept. 5).

It’s the Montagues versus the Capulets — or Taffety Punk vs Shakespeare Theatre! As Shakespeare Theater stages an all-male, Willy-style version of the classic, the edgy company responds with an all-female version (Sept. 9 and 19, respectively).

DCist fell a little in love with Athol Fugard when catching Victory in LA last winter. His latest, The Road To Mecca, is at Studio (Sept. 3).

• American Century Theater has a thriller by Ira Levin of The Stepford Wives fame, Dr Cook’s Garden (Sept. 9).
• Sandra Bernhard comes to Theater J with her show Without You I’m Nothing (Sept. 9).
• Solas Nua reprises Disco Pigs for a short run (Sept. 9).
• In the immortal words of Socrates: I drank what? The philosopher’s Trial is at Sidney Harman Hall (Sept. 16).
• If you’re curious How The Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents, head to Round House (Sept. 17).
• GALA’s season opener is The Aging of The Plum (Sept. 18). The break/s at Kennedy Center details the history of the hip-hop generation (Sept. 18).
• Steve Martin’s The Underpants opens at Olney (Sept. 24).
• Blanche and Beyond is a one-man show based on personal letters of Tennessee Williams, starring Richard Thomas at the Kennedy Center (Sept. 24).
• Synetic Theater, whose founders hail from the Republic of Georgia, chose to forgo its original season opener in favor of Host and Guest, a production based on a Georgian poem, in response to the recent conflict.
• Ganymede Arts stages its second GLTB Fall Arts Festival (Sept. 26).
• Restoration Comedy is back at Shakespeare Theater with The Way of the World (Sept. 30).
