Hearing on Congressional Gun Bill: Looks like we’re really going to see Congress attempt to push through a tougher D.C. gun law this week, despite city leaders’ efforts to paint this as a home rule issue. The Post writes about the hearing planned for this afternoon, and we’ll have more about that after it happens. D.C. Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton intends to introduce a substitute bill that would mandate that D.C.’s gun laws conform to the Heller ruling. The current House bill would additionally abolish the city’s complex gun registration and trigger lock/disassembled and unloaded requirements, and allow District residents to purchase guns directly in Virginia and Maryland.
Violence Overnight: It was a pretty violent Monday night in the District. The most bizarre story is that a firefighter was shot in the arm by a man who had supposedly called 911 for medical help. The firefighter’s injuries were not life threatening. Other violence last night included a man who was killed in a shooting on Quincy Street NW, and three men injured in a shooting in Northeast.
Briefly Noted: Arson suspected in blaze at Silver Spring school … Woman struck by vehicle on Fairland Road in Montgomery County … Man crashes car at Deanwood Metro station.
