HAPPY HOUR: The Argonaut, the very first pub to herald in all the changes we’ve seen to H Street NE over the last couple of years, is celebrating its 3rd anniversary tonight. Take advantage of $5 off beer pitchers and free reign on the excellent jukebox all night long.

MUSIC: Great lineup at Black Cat’s backstage: Buffalo’s Red Tag Rummage Sale start the night, ex-Dismemberment Planners Statehood are up next, followed by the reunited Faraquet. $8, 9 p.m.

MOVIE: Too skeptical to go in blind for any of the DC Shorts film festival’s screenings? We can’t really blame you. Luckily, the folks who had to sit through plenty of rough before they found any diamonds have done all the work for you and voted on the best shorts of the festival, which will all be screened tonight at the Landmark E Street. Check the schedule for the lineup for 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. screenings. $10.

MUSIC: DCist faves Olivia Mancini & the Housemates are at the Velvet Lounge with Oscillating Fan Club, Marshall Costan & the Awesome Few, as well as Donny Hue & the Colors, who they frequently share a bill with. $7, 9:30 p.m.

READING: Want to have trouble sleeping tonight? Then head over to Politics and Prose to hear Philip and Alice Shabecoff, both veteran environmental journalists, talk about Poisoned Profits, an examination of industrial toxins and their link to the rise in childhood disease and death. 7 p.m.

MUSIC: The Republic (formerly Republic Gardens) has been trying to capture its audience back since it recently reopened after getting evicted in 2007, and tonight they bring in bad girl neo-soul rapper Jaguar Wright to please what will surely be a large crowd. $20, 8 p.m.
