MUSIC: Built to Spill‘s 1997 album, Perfect From Now On, is pretty close to being perfect. We’d wager the main reason the band hasn’t yet sold out its 9:30 Club show tonight, where they intend to play the entire album from beginning to end, is that the ticket prices are a little steep. OK, and maybe also because they have a reputation for being unable to keep themselves from turning into a jam band when they play live. Let’s hope that $25 buys us a little less jam and a little more perfection. With The Meat Puppets and The Drones. 7 p.m. doors.

MUSIC: If you just can’t stomach paying $25 to hear the live version of a great album you could listen to at home for free, try DC9. The “Icelandic Beck,” Mugison, will take the stage with his new backing band. D.C.’s own Bellman Barker (***) open. 9 p.m. $10.

HAPPY HOUR: Columbia Heights residents, take in a meal or drink tonight at Red Rocks, The Heights, CommonWealth, Tonic or Looking Glass Lounge. A portion of the proceeds from this evening will benefit Columbia Heights Day on October 4.

ART: Head over to the Wilson Building this evening for a reception to celebrate the 28 new works added to the City Hall collection, HeART of DC, 7 to 9 p.m., with refreshments and speakers. Read our post about the new art and the story behind the exhibit here.

PERFORMANCE: Wonderland Ballroom is hosting an Air Guitar contest tonight at 9 p.m.
