Wednesday:
>> Cleveland crooner Avant is back and at the Birchmere for the night. $29.50, 7:30 p.m.

>> Red Bull’s Big Tune is a head to head producer competition with 12 beatmakers vying to be one of two from D.C. to advance to the championship round in New York City based on audience input. The battle will take place at the 9:30 Club and feature guest spots from local up-and-comer Wale and Virginia-based producer Nottz. $5, 8 p.m.

>> The producer battles continue with the monthly Tru Skool Beat Grinder Championship, which will be taking place at Liv. As usual, local beatsmiths present their best creations in the effort to own the title as the District’s best for four weeks. Grap Luva will host the event while Damu the Fudgemunk, DJ Underdog, Emoni Fela, DJ Roddy Rod, and Rape Whistle provide additional entertainment. $7, 9 p.m.

Thursday:
>> It’s been a year since “Beatdown” was launched and there will be a celebratory beatmaker challenge at Felix. Artists on hand will include Best Kept Secret, Judah, AB, Mastamind the DJ, and J-Scrilla, among others. $10, 8 p.m.

Sunday:
>> Raphael Saadiq has made a name for himself as a member of Tony!Toni!Tone!, Lucy Pearl, and as a solo artist. He’ll be at the Black Cat performing songs from his Motown Sound-inspired release, The Way I See It. $28 in advance/$30, 8 p.m.
