TUESDAY
>> They’ve put out consistently good albums for the better part of two decades, but Built to Spill‘s 1997 album, Perfect From Now On, is arguably their best. They’re playing the album start to finish (the hot trend amongst long-standing bands these days), and it’ll be worthwhile for those who like their loose guitar jams and lo-fi indie sound (even for those who kinda wish they’d picked Keep It Like A Secret instead). They’re playing with the influential band of brothers The Meat Puppets (we didn’t know they were still touring, either) and The Drones at the 9:30 Club. $25
>> It could be blues, it could be noise, it could be rock ‘n’ roll, but it’s definitely all from the mind of one man. Icelandic artist Mugison now has a backing band to add more power to his quirk. Bellman Barker (***) — no strangers to quirkiness themselves — join him at DC9. 9pm, $10.
>> Old Time Relijun’s Arrington de Dionyso is one of the few people who can rival Gogol Bordello’s Eugene Hütz for coolest mustache in rock ‘n’ roll. Although he’ll be in D.C. without his sax playing bandmates, his solo work is impressive enough that the Velvet Lounge is going 18+ for the night. Dan Higgs and Sean McArdle Band open. $8.
>> The Points, one of D.C.’s grittiest live bands, now have an album out to help you pass the time between their beer-spitting, ear-blistering concerts. Help them celebrate their CD release at the Black Cat Backstage. Opening bands Black Time and Static Static will be coming in from London and Los Angeles, respectively, to help. 9 p.m., $8.
WEDNESDAY
>> They sold out three consecutive Rock and Roll Hotel shows last November, but apparently neither that level of demand nor that level of intimacy was good enough for Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. They’re playing their first of two (non-consecutive) sold out shows at DC9 with Interpol-esque Wild Light. While we’d normally try to reassure ticketbuyers with slow fingers that they’d certainly find someone out there with an extra ticket, in this case, we simply wish you luck. 8:30 p.m.
>> Seattle’s extremely catchy Throw Me The Statue sound like they’ve taken the bells and hooks of the Beach Boys and stuck Robert Pollard’s vocals in front of it to create indie pop’s newest sugar treat. They’ll be with L.A. troubadours The Broken West at Rock and Roll Hotel. 8:30 p.m., $10.
>> Still haven’t caught former Three Stars subjects The City Veins? They’ll be at the Black Cat Backstage along with Wakey Wakey and Tiger and the Snow. 9 p.m., $8.
>> Like shows filled with power? Civilian Art Projects at 406 7th Street NW will be hosting two powerful bands, Brooklyn’s These Are Powers and Seattle’s Pwrful Power. The Apes (***) will also be playing. 8 p.m., $8.
