Inspector Edward Delgado of the MPD’s 3rd District Sub Station, a.k.a. the D.C. police officer voted most likely to return your email within an hour, sent out a message to the 3rd District email list today describing a dog attack in Petworth early this morning. At about 4:50 a.m., according to Delgado, an MPD officer who was responding to a call about a dog attack in the 700 block of Quebec Street NW was himself then attacked by the same dog. While the dog was attacking him, the officer reportedly tried to shoot the dog, but missed. The dog’s owner eventually came outside to claim his pet, and Animal Control then took possession of the canine. The injured resident who was originally bitten was taken to an area hospital and is expected to undergo surgery. The officer was treated and released from the hospital.
