Wham City’s favorite son Dan Deacon will be joined by District dance provocateur Gavin Holland for the next After Hours party at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. The party on November 7 will be the last After Hours party of the year and possibly the most uproarious yet. Deacon commands a mass following who is very willing to dance at his implore, while DJ Holland’s Nouveau Riche — called the best D.C. dance night by the Washington City Paper this year — is keeping the District in shape. After Hours tickets are on sale now and will not last long here. Bonus Dan Deacon after the cut.
Surely those readers who have attended and enjoyed the program will have opinions about the first After Hours party in 2009. Who should the museum try to attract? This writer, for one, would like to see the museum “make some noise,” so to speak: In other cities the contemporary art museum often serves as a critical proving ground for noise and experimental bands. Noise is not exactly dance music, or maybe, not usually late-night dance-y music. Maybe 2009 is the year for some “During Hours” musical programming? Why not let in some SUNN O)))?
