Good morning, Washington. You’ve made it to another Friday, and with only two more Fridays to go after this one until election day, the Washington Post has finally endorsed Barack Obama. Fishbowl DC published a rather preposterous rumor that the paper might be about to endorse McCain, but this passage clears that up pretty handily: “The choice is made easy in part by Mr. McCain’s disappointing campaign, above all his irresponsible selection of a running mate who is not ready to be president.”
More From Fenty on Budget Cuts: In what’s been described as a “hastily called news conference” yesterday, Mayor Fenty further outlined his proposed budget cuts aimed at making up for the city’s projected $131 million revenue shortfall. Fenty wants to trim $30 million by making cuts from a long list of city agencies. The Examiner points out that part of the problem is that the city this year stopped funding its previously congressionally mandated $50 million rainy day fund. WTOP takes pains to note in its headline that the MPD is at the top of the list of agencies that would be trimmed.
Police Seek Birth Mother of Dead Girls: Montgomery County police have announced that they are trying to find the birth mother of the two dead girls discovered inside the freezer of their adoptive mother, Renee Bowman, in Calvert County. Investigators say they need the help of the girls’ birth mother to completely solve the case.
