MOVIE: The Reel Affirmations film festival continues tonight with an encore screening of opening night film Breakfast with Scot, a feel-good comedy starring Tom Cavanagh of Ed fame as one half of a gay couple who become guardians of a young boy and learn important life lessons, etc., while trying to teach him to play hockey. At the AFI Silver Theater, at 7 p.m.

MUSIC: The always entertaining and highly talented Benjy Ferree (***) plays an intimate show at the Black Cat‘s backstage tonight, with openers The Griefs. $8, 9 p.m.

READING: Up and coming author Josh Barkan is at Busboys and Poets to read from his novel, Blind Speed, about a young man on the brink who begins to wonder whether a silly palm reader’s fortune might actually be coming true. 6:30 p.m., free.
