Have you guys seen this one yet? The Virginian Pilot reports that a phony flier telling Virginia Democrats they are supposed to vote on Nov. 5, instead of Nov. 4, is being circulated around the Hampton Roads area of the battleground state (via TPM Muckraker, hat tip to Brian Smith).
This is one of the oldest, saddest dirty political tricks in the book. Given how crude the flier is, it seems certain it was made by a novice, but it’s still a pretty ridiculous thing to do. In fact, whomever is responsible could wind up facing a Class 1 misdemeanor charge in Virginia for knowingly communicating false information about an election.
Full text of the flier, complete with spelling errors, is below, in case you can’t read it off of the image.
Due to the larger than expected voter turnout in this years [sic] electoral process. An emergency session of the General Assembly has adopted the following emergency regulations to ease the load on local electorial [sic] precincts and ensure a fair electorial [sic] process.
All Democratic party supporters and independent voters supporting Democratic candidates shall vote on November 5th as adopted by emergency regulation of the Virginia General Assembly.
All Republican party supporters and independent voters supporting Republican candidates shall vote on November 4th as precribed [sic] by law.
We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause but felt this was the only way to ensure fairness to the complete electorial [sic] process.
