Halloween-themed events and activities abound for the rest of the week. Here’s just a few of the spooky upcoming goings on we’ve heard about that sound like they might actually be fun for adults. Add your suggestions in the comments.
THURSDAY:
>> Local author Eric Nuzum is celebrating the release of the paperback version of The Dead Travel Fast: Stalking Vampires from Nosferatu to Count Chocula, his compendium of all things vampire, with what he tells DCist will be “one of the more unusual book readings that Barnes and Noble has hosted.” Find out what Eric has in store at the free 7:30 p.m. event at the Georgetown Barnes and Noble (3040 M Street NW). Read our review of The Dead Travel Fast before you go.
>> The National Library of Medicine is hosting a free screening of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban at 6 p.m., in celebration of the opening of their new exhibit, “Harry Potter’s World: Renaissance Science, History, and Magic”. The event will probably be a little kid-heavy, but we know plenty of you are big Harry Potter fans. Get there at 5 p.m. to get a sneak peak of the exhibit and snag some free refreshments and candy.
>> Looking for one of those giant Haunted House Attractions? The biggest ones in these parts are out in the Maryland suburbs. There’s Bennett’s Curse in Hanover, MD, and Markoff’s Haunted Forest in Dickerson, MD. Both are going to require a car to reach, and cost upwards of $20.
