Good morning, Washington. The happiest place to be in the city last night had to be Ventnor Sports Cafe on 18th Street in Adams Morgan, the unofficial home of Phillies fans who live in Washington. The packed bar erupted into shouts of joy tinged with disbelief when the Phillies won game 5 (part II) of the World Series. Since D.C. is a city faced with a likely future of not winning a baseball championship for at least 25 years too, it was great to see that a city like Philadelphia can finally bring home a trophy. Congrats, Phillyist!

Plans for Park Along Anacostia Announced: Mayor Fenty has announced that a deal is in place with developer Forest City Washington to construct a five-acre park along the Anacostia River. The park, which will be built just east of Nationals Park, will cost the city $42 million. It will ultimately fit in to Forest City’s large mixed-use development planned for the waterfront.

String of Daytime Shootings: Three different people were killed in the District yesterday in separate, unrelated daytime shootings. All three were shot and killed in the middle of the afternoon, within just a couple of hours of each other. The first shooting was at 3 p.m., in the 5700 block of Nannie Helen Burroughs Ave NE; the second was at 4:30 p.m. at 3505 Wheeler Road SE; the third happened at 5 p.m. at 22nd and Alabama Ave SE.
