Something Old: The Steelers and Skins last faced each other in 2004. Big Ben was a rookie, Clinton Portis was in his first year with the Redskins, and Antwaan Randle El was in a Steelers’ jersey. The Steelers won the game 16-7, but that, of course, was pre-Zorn.
Something New: Both teams have two losses this season (and both have lost to the New York Giants). The Skins rank 7th overall on offense, while the Steelers are 25th. Pittsburgh, however, ranks 1st against the pass and 1st overall on defense.
With those stats in mind, expect a lot of and from running back Clinton Portis this Monday. Portis has a league-leading 944 yards so far this season — it will be interesting to see if he breaks the 1,000 yard mark against the top defense in the NFL . The more intriguing challenge Monday, however, is for Santana Moss, who is fifth overall in the NFL in receiving yards and is averaging 15.7 yards per catch. This year, it seems as Moss goes, so go the Redskins (unless they’re playing Philly) — and if all goes well for Moss against the top passing defense Monday night, the Redskins should win. Watch out for Chris Cooley as well. And is it possible Jason Campbell still hasn’t thrown an interception?
Something Blue: Jason Taylor and Shawn Springs will both sit out Monday’s game due to calf injuries , and Jason Campbell will be without Malcom Kelly (knee injury). Meanwhile, the Steelers’ injury list is more extensive than an IRS tax form and includes running back Willie Parker and several Steelers’ special teams players.
