You’re going to be hearing an awful lot about FotoWeek DC over the next ten days. The largest photography-focused event Washington has ever seen is taking over the city’s entire art scene starting Monday, and the sheer amount of gallery shows, museum exhibits and special events connected to the effort is overwhelming, to say the least.

But let’s say you’re curious to check out some of the photography on offer during FotoWeek, except you’re not really the art gallery type, or you just don’t have the inclination to sift through all the event listings and decide on which ones to attend. Warehouse’s Molly Ruppert has what sounds like a cool solution for you: just keep your eyes open when you’re out at one of more than 35 area restaurants, bars, shops and music venues. PixTour aims to bring informal, no frame photo shows featuring local artists to the sorts of places where you are anyway. DCist’s own Heather Goss is one of the folks who helped Ruppert organize the whole thing, and she told me that she was seriously impressed by how many local businesses were willing to open their doors to host local photography shows, sight unseen and with no money in it for them. Very cool. Check out the still-expanding list of PixTour locations and organize your own micro FotoWeek crawl within your own neighborhood.
