PARTY: We have a feeling the line to get in to tonight’s STOPSMILING magazine D.C. issue release party at Civilian Art Projects could rival the one to get in to this year’s DCist Exposed. DJs Ian Svenonius and Kevin Coombe will be on hand in the gallery space to welcome special guests George Pelecanos and Anwan Glover. 7 to 10 p.m., $5 suggested donation.

MUSIC: Tickets are still available to see Tucson, AZ based Calexico, who are touring in support of their excellent new album, Carried to Dust. The Acorn opens at the 9:30 Club, $17, Doors at 7 p.m.

HAPPY HOUR: In the wake of the success of Prop 8 in California, gays and friends of gays have been bummin’. The New Gay offers up one solution for this evening: get drunk! They’re having a ‘Ban Marriage Party’ tonight at Solly’s upstairs, because “if we can’t have full marriage rights, why should anybody?” All are welcome, 8 p.m.

MOVIE: National Geographic Live has expanded their Best of Mountainfilm (based on the popular progressively focused film festival in Telluride) event to two nights this year, with the first up tonight. Six short films focusing on culture and environment will be presented starting at 7 p.m. Also Friday, $20 for one night, $34 for both.

MUSIC: M83 (aka Anthony Gonzalez) is at the Black Cat, with openers School of Seven Bells. $17, 8 p.m.

ART: The first showing of FotoWeek’s NightGallery projections runs tonight through Saturday from 5 to 10 p.m. on the outside of the Museum of the American Indian. Make sure to stop by to see it.
