FRIDAY:
>> The Library of Congress is hosting a free recital by the famed Takács Quartet, certainly one of the top string quartets in the world, along with Hungarian folk ensemble Muzsikás and Márta Sebestyén. 8 p.m., but get to the Library by 6:30 p.m. for a chance at a seat for this one. Did we mention it’s free?
>> Didn’t get enough of Ian Svenonius and Civilian Art Projects last night? The former Nation of Ulysses/The Make-Up frontman/DJ/talk show host is behind another party at the gallery space for tonight, this time playing host to multi-instrumental one-man-band Quintron from New Orleans and Kid Congo Powers. 10 p.m., $10.
>> As one of the better known DJs in the country, Z-Trip has been impressing crowds with his turntable skills for the better part of this decade. His Rock and Roll Hotel show is a make-up from a previous cancellation and will feature local opening acts DJs Deep Sang & Meistro and Stylus. $20, 9 p.m.
>> Connor Contemporary opens the second exhibit in its new space in Northeast, holding three solo shows by artists Zoe Charlton, David Levinthal and Gabriel de la Mora. Opening reception 6 to 8 p.m.
>> The Pink Line Project and Ten Miles Square (from our own Heather Goss) partner for Fixation, which opens at Fight Club from 8:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. Music will be provided by The Jones and DJ Anish at the opening, food will be available via an On the Fly food cart, and nine area photographers will be displaying their works. $10 suggested donation; Fight Club is located at 1250 9th Street NW; enter through Blagden Alley on N St. between 9th and 10th.
>> The most bang for your musical buck this weekend can be found at Dahlak, where you’ll find a five-band bill tonight that includes Ugly Purple Sweater, Lost in the Trees, The Never, Dancer vs. Politician, and Pearl and the Beard. 8 p.m., $7.
SATURDAY:
>> FotoWeek DC kicks off in earnest today, and runs through Nov. 22. We’ve put together an arts agenda guide with our picks of some of the highlights, and will be updating throughout the rest of next week. Make sure to check out Contact/s: The Art of Photojournalism, an exhibition of 25 contact sheets dating back to 1976 at FotoWeek’s Georgetown headquarters, where you can register and pickup a handy free map and event listing brochure.
>> A solid lineup of D.C. bands are at Rock and Roll Hotel: The Dance Party, Greenland, The Nunchucks, and Ra Ra Rasputin all play together on a bill that virtually guarantees a fun Saturday night. 9 p.m., $10.
>> B-movie legend Bruce Campbell appears in person for two screenings of his new self-parody film, My Name is Bruce, at the Landmark E Street Cinema. Don’t miss our full interview with Campbell, and catch him for Q&As after the 7:45 and 10:15 p.m. screenings.
SUNDAY:
