• Mayor Fenty has signed an executive order making it legal for you to rent out your home for the inauguration without having to register as a landlord or obtain a business license. That doesn’t mean renters can ignore any clauses in their leases that prohibit them from subleasing, however.
• Dulles International Airport has opened a new runway… but flight times won’t be affected for a while.
• The District’s annual observance of the Transgender Day of Remembrance, an annual service in memory of transgender people who have died over the year due to violence, take places tonight from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Metropolitan Community Church, 474 Ridge Street NW, near Mt. Vernon Square.
• Residents of the Adelande Apartment Complex, located in the 3100 block of Mount Pleasant Street in D.C., say their building’s boiler is broken and they can’t get a loan to fix it.
• The ubiquitous giant inflatable strike rat shows up in Google Street View.
• The D.C. Republican Committee today submitted a letter to the Board of Elections and Ethics arguing that Michael A. Brown is not really an independent candidate, and that the election results showing that he won an At-large D.C. Council seat should therefore not be certified. The BOEE says it has “no real procedure for a challenge filed prior to certification.”
