Good morning, D.C. If you were looking to score some heroin off of your favorite group of Fairfax County high school students, you’re probably out of luck this morning. The Post reports that ten young adults from the Centreville area were charged yesterday in a heroin distribution ring that is believed to be responsible for at least three heroin deaths.
Most of those involved were current or former students of Westfield High School, and are between the ages of 19 and 22. Apparently heroin use among young people is on the rise in Northern Virginia. We’re not totally sure whether this is the “real” Virginia or the fake one, though.

Shaw Residents Wait for Fix After Gas Line Repaired: Looks like Washington Gas repaired the blown gas line in Shaw by the end of the day yesterday, so it was just a question of getting the gas turned back on at all of the individual affected houses – not something that happened immediately. If you’re in the neighborhood, let us know whether you had to spend the night in the cold or not.

Library Kiosks Closing: Marc Fisher reports that the D.C. Public Library will close all five of its neighborhood kiosks, the small metal booths the library system built in the 1970s to serve as mini-branches in underserved neighborhoods in the eastern part of the city. DCPL director Ginnie Cooper told him that the buildings are just too small to be of much use, since they are unable to provide most normal library services in them. The 11 people who work at the kiosks will be redeployed to other branches.

This Day in DCist: In 2007, we marveled at the hoopla surrounding the opening of a Five Guys in Midtown Manhattan.
