ART: Head over to the Smithsonian American Art Museum to watch a screening of one of the best (only?) shows about contemporary art. At 6 p.m. watch the episode Identity from PBS’ excellent series Art:21, featuring William Wegman, Maya Lin, Louise Bourgeois and more. Free.

MUSIC: Edie Sedgwick, aka Justin Moyer in his drag rock act, is back at the Black Cat backstage. Local experimentalist outfit Gestures and Big Gold Belt open. 9 p.m., $8.

HAPPY HOUR: Get to Science Club tonight for an Artomatic happy hour, which meets the first Wednesday of every month. Meet the folks involved with running this huge event and see how you can volunteer for the next one. 6 to 8 p.m.

MUSIC: The 9:30 Club has a split evening in store, with an early show (6 p.m., $25) from joke-rockers The Dan Band and a late show by Philadelphia’s Dr. Dog (10 p.m., $15). Tickets to both are still available.

MOVIE: The AFI’s Janus Films series is screening Peter Brook’s fantastically chilling 1963 black and white adaptation of William Golding’s Lord of the Flies. Definitely the best film version of the classic tale. Montgomery College students with ID get in for only $6. 6:30 p.m.
