Vincent Orange, fighting Kwame Brown for Gray’s seat, went with a smaller Cadillac SUV than his competitor. What, he couldn’t afford an orange paint job?

Last week the Washington Post’s Marc Fisher asked readers to send in suggestions as to how the Obamas could plug into the local community. Today comes the update. He gave the official nod to three readers, who offered four suggestions: Put “Taxation Without Representation” plates on the presidential ride; sign the Obama daughters up for National Symphony Orchestra events; permit the District to appoint its own judges; and visit a lot of area churches. My own suggestion for the First Family is along the lines of the last one: Go out during Restaurant Week. Try out restaurants when people in the city are all doing the same. Go out to eat in general! I didn’t live in the District when the Clintons were in office, but even I remember spying a column here or a blurb there about where the Clintons were eating. A restaurateur told me that after the Clintons visited a restaurant, the next night it would be packed to the rafters—a nice little pickup bonus for restaurants, and one that disappeared during the stay-home Bush administration. So how about it, Obamas? Feed yourselves, feed some gossip columnists.
