At least one person is dead in two separate rowhouse fires this morning only about seven blocks from each other off North Capitol Street, in the Bloomingdale and Eckington neighborhoods.
The first fire, at a rowhouse at 2220 N Capitol Street NW, broke out just after 7 a.m. this morning. At least one fatality has been reported from that fire, a female victim who was found dead on the scene. Another victim removed from the home was alive but unconscious, and EMS workers administered CPR.
The second fire broke out about an hour later at 11 Randolph Place NW. No injuries have been reported from that fire.
WJLA also has a report.
Traffic is being rerouted throughout the area while crews work to contain the two fires.
We’d suggest using Georgia Ave. as an alternate route.
UPDATE: The Post is also reporting a small fire at the Giant Food store at 8th and O Streets NW in Shaw. The fire was contained in the building ducts and extinguished. No injuries were reported.
