WEDNESDAY
>> Dasvidanya Inauguration hangover. Mumiy Troll, a band of Russkies who has been around since 1983, performs tonight at the Black Cat. Their music is a blend of fun, orchestral pop and rock. The lyrics are in Russian, so brush up. They’re apparently quite popular in Mother Russia, and even represented their homeland in the 2001 Eurovision contest. Rockville’s Force Major open. $15, 9 p.m.
THURSDAY
>> Vic Chestnutt is on tour with psych-folk-rockers and fellow Athenians (GA) Elf Power. Last October, Vic and Elf released Dark Developments, which blends the band’s lo-fi fuzz with the solo artist’s Cat Stevens vocals. $12, 9:00 p.m., Black Cat Backstage.
>> NYC’s The Virgins have a bit of that Franz Ferdinand thing going on. Their track “Rich Girls” is extremely catchy and certainly worth a listen, while the rest of their repertoire is less radio-friendly but still quite fun (see “Private Affair”). Joining them on tour is NYC rocker Lizzy Trullie and L.A.’s “slow and steady” seductress, Anya Marina. At Rock and Roll Hotel, 8:30 p.m., $12.
>> For lovers of the mellow, mid-tempo and poppy, girl-fronted locals Tiger and the Snow are having an EP release party at DC9. With Bellman Barker and Perfect Souvenir. $8, 9 p.m.
>> Royal City Riot bring their Strong Island ska sound to D.C. Opening are the excellently-named D.C. ska band Free Lobster Buffet, who offer up great lyrics like, “I just want to be backstage, knee deep in ass.” The Fortune Tellers and The Transmitters also open. $8, 9:30 p.m., Velvet Lounge.
FRIDAY
>> Got them South Carolina blues? The Junior League Band come home to D.C. with singer Lissy Rosemont’s sassy twang. In a similar vein, from the City of Brotherly Love, Hoots and Hellmouth open. $10 adv/$12 day of, 9 p.m., Black Cat.
>> A night of ska and reggae-infused rock featuring Lionize. Baltimore-based The Players Band and ska-rockers Can’t Hang will open. $15, 8 p.m. doors, 9:30 Club.
>> Bryan Scary and the Shredding Tears and D.C.’s Bottles/Cans will offer up some straight forward rock ‘n’ roll. $10, 9 p.m., Rock and Roll Hotel.
>> Elikeh, the Togo and MD roots Afropop collective, have some pretty chill stuff. See them with Godisheus (pronounced “Gotta See Us”), Chocolate City’s international funk hip-hop hybrid. $8, 10 p.m., Velvet Lounge.
SATURDAY
>> Maybe the best way to describe Yo! Majesty is to imagine 2 Live Crew as a pair of thug lesbians from Tampa. Let that image stew for a second or just head to their MySpace page, put the kids to bed, and throw on “Kryptonite Pussy.” Basically, this show will be fun, sweaty, dirty, and one of them often performs topless. $15, 9 p.m., Black Cat.
