WUSA reports on what appears to be a string of Chinese carryout restaurants being targeted for armed robberies.

The two most recent robberies took place on Saturday night. One of them occured at Eastern Carryout, located at 1784 Florida Ave NW. Owner Paul Chen told WUSA that three men came in through the rear door of the restaurant, forced Chen and his parents into the back and then pistol whipped his mother when she refused to give up her money. The worst part? There was a customer in the front part of the restaurant who allegedly saw what was happening but just walked out the front door, and didn’t call the police.

Instead, after the robbers were gone the customer returned and wanted to know where his food was. Chen says he gave the man back his money and told him to leave.

Wow. What an ass.

Only a half hour before, Peking Express at 1338 U Street NW was robbed in a similar manner, and police believe the same assailants were responsible for both crimes.

WUSA cites MPD stats showing that this was the sixth robbery of an Asian restaurant in the area over the last 10 days. Think about showing your favorite carryout a little love this week and make a point of stopping by to show your support.
