FRIDAY:

>> Catch DCist jazz writer Sriram Gopal and his arts collective Subcontinental Drift, who have put together the exhibition opening at Smith Farm Healing Arts Gallery tonight. Positive Exposure: The South Asian Experience Through the Camera Eye is in two parts. The larger exhibit was picked from an open contest and includes photography from both local and international artists that feature South Asia and its diaspora; the second part includes work from The Clean Hands Project, where professional photojournalists trained Dalits (Untouchables) in Nepal to use digital cameras to document their lives. Reception 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

>> Plenty of other art openings tonight, including new shows at Transformer Gallery and the First Friday events at Dupont galleries. Check our Arts Agenda for all the details.

>> The Cassettes’ Shelby Cinca, who we interviewed last year, is never a person to have just one iron in the fire. In addition to his activities with the Cassettes, he also has an electronic music collective called Swedish Columbia. The collective is playing DJ for the Marquis night at Red Lounge this week, with sets from Jonathan Kreinik, Triobelisk, Outputmessage, Micah Vellian.

>> Two DCist favorites (and former Three Stars profilees) are at The Rock and Roll Hotel this weekend. The hard rocking Caverns (***) and Americana-inflected Deleted Scenes (***) top a bill that also includes Hammer No More the Fingers and Acedia. $10, 8:30 p.m.

SATURDAY:

>> Check out Beer Behemoths: The Connoisseur’s Guide to Doppelbocks, Barley Wines, and Beyond at The Brickskeller. Beer experts Jim Dorsch and Greg Kitsock (of American Brewer magazine) and Bob Tupper (of Hop Pocket Ale and Pilsner) will be sharing their secrets and samples, all for the whopping price of $82.

>> The Keller Quartet, featuring György Kurtág, arguably the most important living classical composer at the moment, along with his wife, pianist Márta Kurtág, will give a free concert at the Library of Congress. The program will include the world premiere of Kurtág’s Hommage à Bartók, as well as other music by himself and by Bartók. It is probably impossible to get a reserved ticket at this point, so show up early to wait for an unused seat. 8 p.m.

>> Legendary house music producer Timmy Regisford will be at the Trinidad and Tobago Association (5123 Georgia Avenue NW). Warming up for him will be Chris Burns. $15 before midnight/$20 after midnight, 10 p.m.

>> One of the few non-sold out shows at the 9:30 Club this week features three generations of D.C. stoner metal, a genre that isn’t necessarily automatically associated with D.C., but that has a long history on the fringes of the more highly publicized hardcore scene. The main attraction here is the Wino Band, the current project from legendary purveyor of doom Scott “Wino” Weinrich, who has been the frontman for heavy D.C. bands for over 30 years now, from The Obsessed to Saint Vitus to Spirit Caravan. The younger generations are represented by Northern VA’s King Giant and Salome. $13, 6 p.m.

>> D.C. mainstays Shortstack (***) released their last record a year ago, a collection of covers ranging from The Kinks to Captain Beefheart to Creedence, giving some insight into their own diverse sound. They’ll headline a mainstage show at the Black Cat with tour diarists These United States and The Minor White. $10, 9 p.m.

SUNDAY:

>> Som Records, The Vinyl District, DC Soul Recordings, and Civilian Art
Projects have teamed to host a record fair on from 12 to 5 p.m. at the gallery. Expect to find DJ’s, refreshments, and tons of records for sale. Check out the Facebook invite for more details.

>> Don’t miss our film picks of the week, including a special screening of Cuadecuc, Vampir, Pere Portabella’s documentary about Spanish filmmaker Jess Franco’s attempt to make an adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. 4:30 p.m. at the National Gallery of Art‘s East Building Auditorium. Free.

>> Asheville, NC indie-poppers The StereoFidelics are on tour in support of their new record, Only Sleeping. They’ll hit The Red and The Black this weekend with local folk rockers Whiz Bang Three. $6, 8:30 p.m.
