WPS — the newest venture looking to bring women’s professional soccer to the American masses — will begin play this March, and the D.C. area will field one of the league’s more marquee sides. The Washington Freedom — helmed by World Cup winning keeper Brianna Scurry — will kick off the league’s first season against the Los Angeles Sol at the Home Depot Center in L.A on March 29. That match will be televised on Fox Soccer Channel. The team’s first home game will pit them against the Chicago Red Stars on April 11 at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Germantown. If the Metro-less journey to the SoccerPlex seems like too far of a trek, but you still want to see the team, not to worry: Soccer Insider reports that D.C. United is planning at least three doubleheaders at RFK Stadium this season, in which you’ll be able to watch both teams play for one price. Cool. All we need now is some creative, clap-filled chants, and we’re set.
