Metro put out a more detailed press release late yesterday explaining exactly how the closure of the Pentagon Metro Station will work this weekend. You’ll recall that the station will be totally shuttered from 10 p.m. on Friday, February 13, to midnight on Monday, February 16 while rail switches, fasteners and stud bolts are replaced. In addition to the closure, the Yellow Line bridge over the Potomac River will receive regular maintenance this weekend, thus making traveling on the Yellow line to anywhere in Virginia over the holiday weekend a real chore.

This information will be of special interest to anyone coming in to D.C. from Virginia for Valentine’s Day dinner. You may be able to take Metro all the way in, but going back will be much more complicated.

So how can you get between D.C. and Pentagon City (and points beyond) this weekend? Metro says it will provide free shuttle bus service every five minutes between the Pentagon City (shuttle bus location on the southbound side of 12th and Hayes St., in front of Macy’s), Pentagon (shuttle bus location at the Pentagon Transit Center, upper level platform, U-7) and the L’Enfant Plaza (shuttle bus stop location, northbound at 7th St., and Maryland Ave SW) stations all weekend. The Yellow Line will only operate between the Huntington and Pentagon City stations, so if you’re heading toward the city, you can take Metro to Pentagon City and then hop a shuttle bus to L’Enfant, where you can board a Green line train. Reverse that trip to go in the opposite direction.

The Blue line will operate between the Franconia-Springfield and Pentagon City stations, and between the Largo Town Center and Arlington Cemetery Metrorail stations. Metro will not be operating shuttle bus service to the Arlington Cemetery and Rosslyn stations, so customers traveling north would need to take the free shuttle bus from Pentagon City to the L’Enfant and transfer to an Orange or Blue line train to reach Rosslyn or Arlington Cemetery. Again, reverse that trip to go in the opposite direction.

Metrobus service at the Pentagon Transit Center will also be affected by the closure, and will be moved to the Pentagon City station, at a location northbound on 12th at Hayes St., beginning at 7 a.m. on Saturday, February 14, and continuing through midnight on Monday, February 16.

Expect delays on Blue and Yellow line trains, which will operate only between every 12-15 minutes during the weekend. Green line service above L’Enfant Plaza will operate every 8 minutes during the day on Saturday and Sunday.
