With the 10th anniversary of Artomatic comes a new location — Half Street’s 55 M Street SE, a 275,000 square feet LEED Silver Class A office building that is currently under construction. The dates of the five-week long art, music, and theater event are May 29 to July 5, and it will run Wednesdays through Sundays.
Of the new venue, Artomatic Chair George C. Koch told us over email:
This location is very similar to the one we held in NoMa last year, a new building with only the core completed on each floor. We will build exhibit areas and special rooms as we did last year. The open environment we were able to create last year which both artists and audience were pleased with will return. Last year’s venue was a step up for us and this year’s site will continue on the same path.
Artomatic by its nature is organic in its growth and incremental in its approach to change. Our vision is altered each year by the experience of the event and the creativity of the artists who volunteer and make it all happen.
The venue, in the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood, is located on top of the Navy Yard Metro stop and within a block of Nationals Park. Michael Stevens, executive director of the Capitol Riverfront BID said in a press release, “With both Artomatic and Major League Baseball within blocks of one another, the Capitol Riverfront will be the go-to location for summertime entertainment in 2009. Artomatic sets the stage for the type of future festivals and entertainment that you will see in the Capitol Riverfront at the three new parks — Diamond Teague, The Yards Park and Canal Park — which begin opening spring 2009 through 2011.”
Registration for participation in Artomatic starts next month and is open to all artists. For more information on registration or volunteering at the event, visit the Artomatic web site. Artomatic has already been working with the Capitol Riverfront BID, as it partners with the Pink Line Project to present Luck of the Draw in the neighborhood this weekend.
