Good morning, D.C. We hope you didn’t stay up too late basking in the glow of Slumdog Millionaire Fest 2K9, because we’ve got a busy week ahead of us from the look of this morning’s headlines. The Post’s Mary Beth Sheridan gives us the latest on the D.C. Voting Rights Act, which is scheduled for a cloture vote in the Senate tomorrow, with some minimal opening floor debate expected late this afternoon. Sheridan’s got co-sponsor Sen. Orrin G. Hatch (R-Utah) saying he thinks the votes are there. Assuming the bill can get through cloture, more debate will follow on the bill for several days, with a final vote on the bill coming after that. Stay tuned to DCist this week for all the latest developments.

Brief Red Line Delays This Morning: Red Line commuters got stuck in some annoying delays this morning, as trains were sharing the same track between Farragut North and Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan due to a train experiencing mechanical difficulties at Dupont Circle. Single-tracking began shortly after 8 a.m., creating delays in both directions during the busiest part of the morning rush. The situation was cleared by 8:25 a.m., but delays continued for some time after.

Fenty Family Returns from Vacation to Dubai: You could tell D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty was out of town last week by the telltale sign of having no public events scheduled for several days in a row, a rarity for this highly visible mayor. Now we finally learn where he was: WTOP reports that Fenty returned Sunday from a previously unannounced week-long family trip to Dubai. The mayor reportedly also met with officials there, including the mayor of Dubai, but this was a personal trip and no public money was used to pay for it. A statement from the mayor’s office said that Fenty was accompanied by his wife and two sons—we’re guessing little baby Aerin stayed behind?
