>> Oakland-based songstress Ledisi picked up Grammy nods in 2007 and has been moving forward ever since. Her show at the BIrchmere, which was rescheduled from January, is sold out but Craigslist might be able to help out in the ticket-getting department. $45, 7:30 p.m.

>> The “Rice & Beans Soundsystem” has been a road show of tunes with an emphasis on jazz, soul, and salsa. The party goes down at Saint-Ex. Free, 10 p.m.

Friday:
>> Somalian-born, Toronto-based rapper K’naan has been one of the most talked about hip-hop acts over the past few years in part because of his narratives about life as an African and immigrant. He’ll be performing at the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage. Free, 6 p.m.

>> “Black Mongoose” is a weekly showcase for local hip-hop artists and takes place at Chief Ike’s. Free, 7 p.m.

>> Plain and simple, George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic are legendary. They’ll be at the 9:30 Club for one night. $40, 8 p.m.

>> DJ Eurok will be at the Eighteenth Street Lounge spinning dancehall, hip-hop, and Latin grooves with a D.C. twist. $10, 11:30 p.m.

Saturday:
>> The second installment of “Hip-Hop Cinema Cafe” will feature the film, The Freshest Kids: A History of The B-Boy. After the viewing at the Historical Society of Washington, a panel discussion featuring b-boys Grey Matter, Giovanni Galleno, and Atomic Goofball will take place. Free, 2 p.m.

>> The Roots’ Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson (pictured) will put down his drumsticks and step behind the turntables for a DJ set at Liv. He’ll be joined by D.C.’s own DJ Dredd. Early arrival is advised. $10-$15 in advance and before midnight/$20 after midnight, 9 p.m.
