Photo by little-wingsGood snowy morning, Washington! Let’s get down to it. A winter storm warning is in effect until 2 p.m., there’s plenty of snow on the ground (around 5″ in the city so far, with more expected) and heavy snow is still falling as we type. But the closings and delays for the day are a mixed bag—you probably still have to get your butt in to work eventually.
D.C. Public Schools and the federal government are both operating on a two-hour delay. We’re sorry, guys.
Pretty much all suburban and most private schools are closed for the entire day (see WTOP’s comprehensive list).
Metrorail opened on time at 5 a.m., and as of 8:15 a.m., the Red line was experiencing some minor delays, but the rest of the system is running normally. Metrobuses are also running, but they may be operating on detoured routes to avoid side streets that haven’t been cleared at all yet. VRE and MARC were both experiencing minor storm-related delays.
Thousands of people in Virginia and Maryland are without power, but Pepco’s outages in the District are minimal.
Here’s full storm coverage from the Post, WTOP, and ABC 7/NewsChannel 8.
