Photo by Samer FarhaGood morning, Washington. We know you’re all just dying to hear all about how the Damn Media team overwhelmed and crushed the D.C. Council team at yesterday’s basketball game at the Verizon Center, and we’ll have full coverage for you shortly. In the meantime, our threat to send Martin Austermuhle after Phil Mendelson’s mustache on the court appears to have been empty: the At-large Council member never made it to the game, instead sticking around the Wilson building for his MPD oversight hearing with Chief Lanier and Peter Nickles. The Post reports that Lanier made the case that the city’s crime cameras have led to a decrease in crime. We know at least some people would likely beg to differ.
Woman Sues District Over Refusal to Register Two-Tone Pistol: While we wait for the U.S. House of Representatives to decide whether the NRA is more important to them than D.C. having a voting member, the Post reports that a woman has filed suit against the District of Columbia for its refusal to register her handgun because of its color. Tracey Hanson says that her application to register a two-tone, stainless steel/black pistol was denied because that color scheme on that model of gun is not on the California Safe Handgun Roster, which is what the city uses as its standard. The suit is an attempt to bar the city from enforcing gun regulations based on the California list.
McGruff-Punching Bus Driver Fired: The Examiner follows up on their scoop of the month with news that Shawn Brim, the 38-year-old Metrobus driver accused of punching McGruff the Crime Dog, has indeed been fired by WMATA. Unsurprisingly, Brim had no comment for the newspaper.
