MUSIC: National Geographic’s excellent Rhythm Road free concert series continues tonight, this time featuring pianist Helen Sung & Nu Generations at 6 p.m., along with the Chris Byars Quartet at 7:15. Free.
ART: Flashpoint hosts artists Kate McGraw and Ann Tarantino tonight as they collaborate on planned and improvised drawings created directly on the walls of the gallery. Workbook will feature the artists’ own signature styles as well as their response to one another’s mark-making. McGraw and Tarantino will collaborate for ten days and document the process through video and in a twist to the typical “buy the painting on the wall,” they’ll instead make small 7×7″ paper prints, each handmade, unique and available for $50. The video will be incorporated into the project and on view on March 28. Free opening reception tonight from 6 to 9 p.m.
MUSIC: Recent Three Stars subject and veritable local super group Pree are releasing their first album this week at the Black Cat. With DCist favorite (and video correspondent) Meredith Bragg, (***) and Birdlips. $8, backstage, 9 p.m.
CLASSICAL: Pro Musica Hebraica presents the Biava Quartet tonight, playing a program of St. Petersburg Jewish composers at the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater. Tickets: $50. 7:30 p.m.
SPORTS: The NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament kicked off in earnest today, so every sports bar in town will be packed. From what we hear, VCU fans are congregating at Buffalo Billiards in Dupont, UCLA fans at Bar Louie in Chinatown, Maryland fans all already left their offices and are stationed at drinking outposts all over town, and you’ll likely find some AU fans watching at Cleveland Park Bar & Grill. If you’ll be watching your alma mater play at a specific bar in town, let others know in the comments.
