Good morning, Washington. The D.C. Council is scheduled to begin its budget oversight hearings today on Mayor Adrian Fenty’s 2010 budget proposal. Fenty, City Administrator Dan Tangherlini, and Chief Financial Officer Natwar Gandhi are all set to appear at today’s Committee of the Whole public briefing (Council Chamber Room 500), set to begin at 10 a.m. Expect a lot of focus on those 1,600 proposed job cuts from the Council members, as well as specific questions about the cuts planned for DCPS, MPD and DOH.

Arrest Made in Triple Homicide: By now you’ll have heard about the triple homicide in Northeast over the weekend. Erika Peters, 36, and her two sons, Eric Peters, 11, and Dakota Peters, 10, were found killed in their residence in the Carver Terrace Apartments, the victims of an apparent stabbing. WTOP reported late Sunday that an arrest has been made in the case. Peters’ boyfriend, Joseph Randolph Mays, 44, has been arrested for all three murders. Mays was found inside the apartment where the three victims were, himself suffering from non-life threatening injuries.

Catholic Day Care Center Looks to Close: Pair of news stories about the impending closure of the day care center inside the Holy Name Catholic Church in Trinidad. The Post gives protests by parents the B1 treatment, reporting that the Catholic Charities-run Model Cities Child Development Center announced last week that it will close at the end of June after operating for over 30 years. The Examiner also covers the closure, focusing on the economic realities of why the school will close despite the protests.
