London-based band White Lies are at the Black Cat tonight. TUESDAY
>> The UK’s White Lies is already being hyped as one of the best bands of 2009. Shouldn’t there be a six-month waiting period before we get into that debate? You could check back in July, or go ahead and see them tonight at the Black Cat, where they’ll share the stage with Friendly Fires and The Soft Pack. $15, 8 p.m.
WEDNESDAY
>> Is there a greater honor bestowed upon local bands than to be added to the burger menu at DC9? Arguably not. New Rock Church of Fire joins the ranks of Rosetta Stoned, Five Four, The Lucky Bastards and other local luminaries with their own burger — topped with beer-battered onion rings, John Powers Whiskey BBQ Sauce, smoked gouda cheese and mushrooms. The band will be inaugurating this delicious occasion with a burger unveiling show at the venue. Damiera, Man Without Wax, and Meow vs Meow fill out the bill. Come hungry. $8, 8:30 p.m.
THURSDAY
>> When Glasvegas played the Rock & Roll Hotel this fall, DCist’s Valerie Paschal lamented forgetting earplugs. But she also had a hell of a time at the show. Now it’s your turn. See them at the Black Cat this time, with Ida Maria, $15. 8 p.m.
FRIDAY
>> Portland, Oregon based indie-folk-pop outfit Blind Pilot just landed the opening slot on The Decemberists upcoming tour, but you can see them on a smaller stage this Friday at IOTA, with Ezra Furman and the Harpoons. $12, 9 p.m.
