Photo by james1428Metro’s latest weekend track work schedule, which covers the month of April, is now up on their web site. What sorts of delay-tastic shenanigans are in store for us in the coming month? We’ve posted the basics below.
April 4-5, and April 11-12:
No work planned, thanks to the crowds expected for the National Cherry Blossom festival superseding Metro’s need to do maintenance work. Enjoy the reprieve while it lasts, because the rest of the month will see plenty of long delays.
April 17-19:
Red Line: From 10 p.m., Friday, April 17, to midnight on Sunday, April 19, a switch replacement work at the Brentwood rail yards will cause significant delays for anyone traveling between Judiciary Square and Rhode Island Avenue-Brentwood stations—expect 30 minute delays at a minimum. Trains will be single-tracking all they way between those two stations, and as anyone who has tried to ride a Metro line with switch replacement work going on, it’s best to just find alternate transportation if you can.
Orange Line: Crosstie work between the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU and West Falls Church-VT/UVA stations will create major, 30 minute delays between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 18. Trains will single-track between those two stations on that Saturday only, but every other Orange Line train in the direction of Vienna/Fairfax-GMU will terminate at the West Falls Church and return to New Carrollton in order to make things go at least a little faster.
April 24-26
Red Line: More of the same switch replacement delays between Judiciary Square and Rhode Island Avenue-Brentwood. Those 30 minute delays will be in effect from 10 p.m., Friday, April 24, to midnight on Sunday, April 26.
Blue and Orange Lines: Bridge maintenance work will slow things down between Eastern Market and Stadium-Armory. Trains will share one track between those two stops from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., on Saturday, April 25, and Sunday, April 26, leading to general 30 minute delays.
As always, these advance schedules are subject to change.
