» Maryland legislators struck a deal to deny Maryland licenses to illegal immigrants beginning in July 2015, as reported today by ABC7. Way back when, Matthew Yglesias observed that Democratic lawmakers have a hard time dealing with this issue, because on one level people living in the country illegally should not be allowed to do anything that is legal, even order coffee from Starbucks. But reductive measures like this one lead to bad and inadvertent outcomes — like illegal immigrants driving without licenses.

» While Anne Arundel County police and fire officials were working to extinguish a fire, some guy kept getting too close to the blaze. The Associated Press reports that when officials tried to stop him from doing that, he tried to turn a fire hose on them. So they Tasered him. Your guess is as good as mine.
» If you were wondering when a New York politician would use the Virginia Tech massacre to score cheap political points against an opponent, know that, at long last!, New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg has stepped up. Yesterday, Bloomberg appeared in Arlington County with victims who were wounded in the 2007 Virginia Tech shootings in support of a new television ad he’s running against Virginia Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell. Gawd, I don’t even want to slug this story.
