TALK: Looking for something Earth Day-related? The Anacostia Community Museum hosts a family-friendly environmental discussion tonight, titled Reducing Your Carbon Footprint. Speakers from the Sierra Club, the Ward 8 Environmental Council, and the EPA will share some simple tips to being environmentally responsible. JAZZ: One of the country’s most respected jazz composers, Alan Blaylock, who holds the position of Chief Arranger with the Air Force’s big band, The Airmen of Note, will perform tonight at Blues Alley with his own jazz orchestra. Tickets to the 8 and 10 p.m. sets are $18 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.
ART: As part of Craftweek DC (read our full rundown) the WPA is holding a panel discussion tonight on the “Tug-of-War” between art and craft. The discussion runs from 5:30 to 7:30 at their headquarters in Dupont, and includes DCist arts writer Kelly Rand. Free, but RSVP to kbilonick[at]wpadc.org.
TALK: The Nation Magazine is hosting a forum tonight that will attempt to assess President Obama’s first 100 days in office. The panel will feature Rep. Donna Edwards (D-Md.) alongside Katrina vanden Heuvel, Christopher Hayes, William Greider, Ari Melber and Deepak Bhargava of The Nation, with moderator John Nichols. Free, 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the The Washington Hilton, International Ballroom East.
HAPPY HOUR: Penn Quarter’s Poste hosts a fundraiser for FreshFarm Market tonight in its courtyard (hopefully the weather cooperates). The event also marks Poste’s recent upgrade of its large patio space, which now includes a full outdoor bar, a wood-burning grill and more seating. A $5 donation at the door gets you in to the event, which will feature samples from Poste’s new outdoor small plates menu and tastes from the new all-Virginia wine list. 5 to 7 p.m.
